After graduating from Northwestern University School of Law, Mark Neil served as a law clerk to Justice Howard C. Ryan of the Illinois Supreme Court. Prior to law school, Mark studied at Oxford University and graduated from Shimer College with Honors. He served as trust counsel at Harris Trust and Savings Bank (now BMO Harris) before managing the Trust and Investment Group at Cole Taylor Bank as the Department Head.
Mark is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association. Prior to its sale, he was the cofounder and director of North Star Trust Company which operated as an independent trust company. As such, the North Star Trust Company managed almost $1,200,000,000 in assets and built national practices in the 1031 like kind exchange field and in the trusteeship of non-public ESOPS. He served on the Treasurer’s Business Roundtable for then State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka and chaired the Unclaimed Property division. He has served as a Director of the Institute for Clinical Social Work and for the Rogers Park Builders Group as well as past Director of a national 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to seeking equal property rights for all relationships whether marital or non-marital. He is currently a Director of the Association of Colleges which is dedicated to four year liberal arts colleges in Illinois, which currently educate some 65,000 college students. He also serves on the Professional Advisory Committee of the Chicago Community Trust.
